Household rubbish removal in the Sutherland Shire
Updated October 2026

Every house in the Shire has a corner that fills up. A garage you can no longer park in, a shed stacked with things nobody has touched since the last move, a spare room that quietly became storage. When you finally decide it all has to go, household rubbish removal Sutherland Shire crews do the whole job for you: they turn up, load everything onto the truck, sweep up, and take it away.
We are a referral service. Tell us what you have and roughly how much, and we pass the job to one of the insured local rubbish removal crews who work your suburb. They call you back with a price before any work starts. Get a fast quote
What the crews take
Household loads are the bread and butter of the rubbish removalists we work with. Typical jobs include:
- Garage and shed clean-outs, including old tools and timber offcuts (liquid paint and chemicals go to a Community Recycling Centre)
- Furniture: lounges, mattresses, wardrobes, bed frames and flat-pack leftovers
- Boxes of general junk, toys, clothing and bric-a-brac
- Carpet, rugs and underlay pulled up during a refresh
- Moving-day leftovers when the removalist truck has gone and a pile remains
If your load includes fridges, TVs or other appliances, see the white goods and e-waste page. Garden waste has its own page too: green waste removal.
How it works
You fill in the form in about sixty seconds. A local crew calls you back, usually asks for a photo of the pile, and gives you a price. On the day they load everything themselves, you point and they carry. Most household jobs in suburbs like Miranda, Engadine and Sylvania are done within an hour or two.
What it costs
As a guide only, Sydney rubbish removal typically runs around $70 to $150 per cubic metre, with smaller callouts carrying a minimum charge. A single-garage clean-out often lands somewhere between a quarter and a half truck load. The full breakdown, including what pushes a price up or down, is in our rubbish removal cost guide. Every job is priced on what is actually there, so treat any figure as guide pricing only until a crew has seen the load.
Removal, council cleanup, or a skip
Sutherland Shire Council runs booked kerbside cleanups for residents, which suit a small amount of furniture if you can wait for a date and stay within the volume cap. Check council's current cleanup allocation before you count on it. A skip bin works if you are happy to do all the loading yourself and have somewhere to put the bin for a week. A removal crew costs more than a council pickup but less effort than either: no lifting, no waiting, gone in one visit. More on this in the cost guide.
Why locals use a crew instead of the tip
A trailer run to the tip sounds cheap until you add tip fees, fuel, a weekend, and a sore back. The crews we refer carry the lot in one go, and because they sort loads, usable furniture and metals are often diverted from landfill rather than dumped.

Frequently asked questions
Do I need to move everything to the kerb first?
No. The crews load from wherever the rubbish sits, the garage, the backyard or inside the house. Clear access helps, but carrying is their job, not yours.
Can they take everything in one visit?
Usually, yes. A standard truck carries roughly 8 to 12 cubic metres. For very large clean-outs the crew will quote a second run up front so there are no surprises.
Do I need to be home?
Not always. If the rubbish is accessible, say a pile beside the garage, many crews can collect it and send photos when done. Agree on this when they call you with the price.
What can't they take?
Asbestos and most hazardous chemicals need licensed specialists. If a crew spots suspect material they will stop and tell you rather than load it.
